Nurse Extender

Job Summary

Provides patient care under the direction of the Registered Nurse in accordance with established policies, procedures, and protocols of the healthcare organization.

Job Responsibilities

• Assists with admissions (prepare room for admission, orient patient to room and surroundings, introduce patient folder, explain rounding, call light, how to work TV, thermostat.)
• Assist with discharges (Call family to ensure someone can transport patient home, gather belongings, make copies/discharge packets, assist patient off unit via wheelchair, meet ride in designated area, assist into vehicle.)
• Monitors and communicates changes in patient condition to primary RN.
• Performs daily care tasks (delivery, set up, and pick up of meal trays, assist with feeding of patient with no aspiration risk, intake/output, ambulate, patient bed bath, pericare, change of patient clothing, linen changes.)
• Answers call lights and provides needed assistance to the patient
• Carries out additional duties as assigned (safety observation, intentional rounding, daily care tasks, supply stocking, etc.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, General Equivalency Diploma (GED) or higher preferred
• No experience required
• BLS - Certified as a Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider required within 45 days of employment in this position
