Summary
Job Summary
Provides therapeutic and patient care services for the purpose of delivering radiation therapy as prescribed by a Radiation Oncologist.
Job Responsibilities
- Delivers patient treatment plan in collaboration with physician and dosimetrist/physicist.
- Evaluates patients for appropriate response to treatment and reports any adverse reactions.
- Positions patients and selects anatomic/technical parameters accurately; maintains a high degree of accuracy in positioning and treatment techniques while utilizing radiation protection procedures.
- Reviews patient charts for completeness and accuracy according to established policies and procedures. Verifies completion of prescription, appropriate signatures, and patient consents.
- Responsible for effective and safe operation of equipment in the Linac treatment room. This includes the Linear accelerator, OBI, portal imager, Protura couch, and HDR unit.
- Fabricates individualized immobilization, custom blocks, and other beam-modifying devices.
- Applies as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA) principle to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others.
- Primary liaison between patients and other members of the radiation oncology team.
Qualifications
- Associate's degree or higher in Science required upon hire OR
- Associate's degree or higher in related field required upon hire
- A combination of education, training and experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
- No experience required
- RT(T) - Registered as a Radiological Technologist in Radiation Therapy required upon hire AND
- ROC - Radiation Operator Certification in the state of Kentucky required upon hire AND
- BLS - Certified as a Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider required within 90 days of employment in this position
