Physician Assistant - ICU

Job Summary

Under the supervision of a physician provides direct diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive health care services in the adult intensive care unit.

Job Responsibilities

• Obtains patient history and performs assessment via observation, interview, and examination.
• Orders, performs, and interprets diagnostic procedures.
• Provides direct treatment and management of health conditions via prescriptive authority or referral to other healthcare providers.
• Provides counseling and education to patients and their families/caregivers concerning preventative health and treatment options.
• Provides accurate and timely documentation of assessment and patient care plan.
• Assists with admissions, consults, daily progress notes, and transfers from critical care unit.
• Coordinates care between medical specialties.
• Participates in morning rounding with intensivist and rounding with the multidisciplinary intensive care team.
• Assists intensivist with procedures which include central line and arterial line placement; additional procedures may include chest tube placement and thoracentesis with the pulmonologists/intensivists.
• Assists with basic ventilator management.
• Performs critical care ultrasound procedures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies required upon hire OR
• Bachelor's degree or higher in related field required upon hire
• No experience required
• Physician Asst - Current licensure as a Physician Assistant in the state of Kentucky required upon hire AND
• NCCPA - National Physician Assistant certification through National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants required upon hire AND
• BLS - Certified as a Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider required upon hire AND
• ACLS - Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Healthcare Provider required upon hire
