Summary

Job Summary

Evaluates cytologic material from gynecological and non-gynecological specimens using independent knowledge and judgment and to assist in other areas of the cytology lab such as processing and records as needed.
 
Job Responsibilities
  • Screens gynecological specimens and renders a diagnosis if the smears are negative for intra-epithelial lesion. Makes provisional diagnosis on smears considered to be atypical or above and then referring those cases to a pathologist.
  • Screens non-gynecological smears, rendering a provisional diagnosis, and then referring all non-gynecological cases to a pathologist.
  • Assists with specimen preparation and cytological duties needed to facilitate the workflow.
  • Performs the pertinent quality control procedures to validate test results according to established standards and reviews reports with the medical director.
  • Assists in delivery of physician reports via phone or internal distribution in a timely manner.
  • Practices proper telephone techniques by identifying self and directing calls and messages to correct destination.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Cytotechnology required upon hire OR
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in related field required upon hire
  • No experience required
  • CT - Certified as a Cytotechnologist required upon hire
